Clean, affordable off-grid energy for rural areas will improve lives and the planet

Electricity Access

Worldwide, lack of access to clean electricity is a major concern, as this offsets the use of heavy carbon methods for households and small businesses. 600 mio. people in rural Africa alone live without access to electricity of any form. Access to electricity is one factor contributing to and shaping better lives. POWERBOKS provides clean and affordable, and portable, electricity for the rural areas far off the beaten track and with no access to grids. We see access to clean electricity as the foundation for better health for people and the planet, empowerment and a sustainable and conscious growth.

Carbon Reduction

In many rural areas in developing countries people rely on usage of wood, charcoal, kerosene etc. for households (cooking e.g.) and for small businesses. These fuel types are carbon heavy and given the number of people living in rural areas in developing countries (600 mio. in Africa alone), the negative carbon impact is massive. Utilizing our off-grid solutions to provide clean, affordable electricity for households and SMEs in rural areas will save substantial carbon emissions. A 50 household village can save approx. 300 t carbon emissions annually by switching from wood/kerosene mix to a POWERBOKS solution.

Improved Health

Usage of carbon intensive fuels for households in rural areas of developing countries has a major health impact on women and children in particular. Cooking in the small households, using wood and charcoal eg. damages  health and wellbeing. Rural areas in developing nations see high incidences of premature respiratory diseases for especially women and children and even death for children. These people grow up with the negative effects of air pollution in the homes, and their living standard is impacted. POWERBOKS wants to make a difference by improving health in these rural areas, given all people equal opportunity.

Reduced deforestation

In rural areas of developing countries a rapid deforestation is happening. This is driven not only by industry but also by a need for fuels (wood/charcoal) for cooking etc. for establishing and maintaining lives in rural areas. Deforestation means that we globally have less trees to capture carbon from the air. Clean household cooking for Africa is on the priority list of the International Energy Agency (IEA) for the same reason. POWERBOKS believes in equal opportunities and clean energy access for all.

Sustainable Growth

Access to electricity is at the core of  economic growth. Electricity enables activity of many sorts, creating more efficiency in the daily lives of people and businesses.

Investing in clean energy is critical to keeping carbon emissions in check,  improve health and activity,  creating green jobs, boosting productivity, and ensuring better health and education, universal access to clean, reliable and affordable electricity, which are all essential for long-term sustainable development.

empowerment

In many rural communities in developing countries families depend on wood collection, and supporting daily lives by working or being useful around the household. Access to clean electricity directly at the rural village enables inhabitants to spend time on other activities, going to school, enabling clean cooking and reading/studying in the evening, engagement in small business etc.  POWERBOKS supports equal opportunities for all and empowerment is at the core. We engage with the communities to empower and build a sustainable future.
